What's in a name?

Now that we have found out the gender of Baby Rodgers #3, we are on to the tremendous task of naming her. I think that naming is such an important thing, as it is what you will be called for the rest of your life. It is a big responsibility, thinking of the right name... We all have names we like, and then there are names we love. The real question is why do we love them and what about a name makes it right for the new little addition to our family?
Jackson was so easy for us to name. While it is a very "trendy" name, my dad passed away the year before he was born and it seemed so natural to name our son after the Papa he wouldn't meet. Making him a namesake keeps my dad alive for him, even though he has never met him. Jackson's middle name is Thomas, also very family oriented. Randy's father's middle name is Thomas, Randy's brother's middle name is Thomas and my grandpa (Shawn's Dad) was named Thomas. So there you go one name so easily thought of! Then came Olivia, and being that she was a girl we could look at names we hadn't looked at before. So we thought of Olivia, and I have to say that it was a bit more me than Randy, but he came along. And in my eyes, Olivia is the most beautiful name ever. Olivia was born and looked every bit like the "Olivia" in my mind, so there it was. Her middle name is Marie, after Randy's mother. So again, I felt we had found the perfect name, the name that perfectly epitomized our beautiful baby.
So here we go again, and we are blessed to be expecting another baby girl! And I tell you it is getting harder to think of the perfect name... Of course we have a little trouble agreeing, and while I could pull my "I do most of the work in carrying, growing and delivering the baby" card, I am trying not to. Naming our children has been and is as important to Randy as it is to me, unfortunately agreeing is something we tend to butt heads at. Must be two strong-willed, first-borns' making one huge decision...We want a name that we love, that the kids can see as their baby sister, and that when the baby grows she will love as well. So we are constantly at the drawing board... Middle names are easy for us, as we always honor a family member with a middle name, but it is that all important first name, identity of our expected child that we are going to have to find. Don't worry we will find it and we will love it, it is just a mystery as to when ;) Wish us luck!!

I can totally relate to this post! But try having 3 kids of the same gender! Makes it that much harder! We don't name our kids after people, but we still struggle in finding that perfect name. It was so much harder this time. We searched and searched for names for a loooong time before we finally ended up with a name. And actually we are going with the other first name we had picked out for Aliyah and the other middle name we had picked out for Kinsley...hope that makes sense =). Hopefully it suits our newest addition! Good luck with finding the perfect name!
